Quotations are based on the findings of the Hydrogeological Assessment (HGA) provided by BA Hydro or others. Please note the reports disclaimers.
JDHL take no responsibilities for additional costs to advance the borehole due to varying ground conditions when an HGA has not been provided.
Please note the reports disclaimers.
Every BH is an exploratory investigation and ground conditions may vary from the report or the expected geology. Additional costs may occur to change technique or continue drilling.
JDHL are members of the British Drilling Association and the Well Drillers Association.
A permit to dig (including CAT scan and starter pit) will be carried out at the BH location. The Client is responsible for underground services on their site.
Our working days are 08:00 – 18:00, Monday to Friday. If for any reasons we encounter delays outside of our control or require time to prepare borehole locations (e.g. access to site, cleaning up spoil, waiting for water to be supplied by the Client) our hourly rate is charged at £125 plus VAT.
We assume welfare is available on site, but a quote can be provided if JDHL are providing.
The site will be left as clean and tidy as possible. However, clean-up of water, slurry and cuttings from the BH is not included in the quote. Spoil and water will be left on site unless we are asked to quote to contain or remove it.
Borehole positions should be accessible for our tracked rig, support vehicle (4WD), 750 CFM air compressor and associated equipment. Borehole locations should be 50m for any septic tank, away from overhead cables and away from overhead branches and trees.
JDHL can quote for track mats and ground protection if required.
Due to geological features such as faults and fissures there is a chance the drillers may lose their flush (returns from the borehole). When this happens there is a high possibility of the upper part of the borehole collapsing making the equipment in the borehole stuck fast and impossible to recover. It is advisable for us to install temporary steel casing in the borehole to avoid the risk of losing our equipment and failing to achieve completion of your borehole. We will discuss the options and possible costs with you prior to the continuation of the drilling process.
On rare occasions we have encountered an artesian water strike (pressurised aquifer). If we strike an artesian aquifer, it may need to be controlled to prevent any structural or geological damage. It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure the artesian flow is brought under control and sealed. As your drilling contractor we will do this on your behalf. This will involve the use of borehole mud sealants, weighted to counter the upward flow of water. Additional charges will be made to cover the materials, mixing plant and labour. This will be discussed and agreed with you prior to commencement of any additional works. Minimum charge 1 day plus materials (usually fabricated flange head works and steel casing).
Proposed start dates may have to be re arranged due to delays on existing works.
A non-refundable deposit of 25% of the drilling costs is required prior to work being booked on our schedule.
A water supply is required on site. We can supply a water bowser and standpipe if required. Cost to be supplied.
Drilling in Green sand requires a significant water supply and additional labour, and resources may be required to keep up with this demand.
A Thermo-Grout will be installed as a seal and pack based on 120% well volume.
Additional materials may be required to seal voided ground, and costs will be charged on. When voided ground cannot be backfilled steel casing may need to be left in the ground permanently.
Standing Time – this will be charged for any non-productive time on site out of our control. This includes waiting for access or restrictions on and off site, agreeing a borehole position, waiting for a decision from the Client (e.g. relating to drilling deeper, moving position or aborting the borehole).
The grid reference on the HGA can be located using “Where’s The Path” (wtp2.appspot.com)
Borehole positions are marked with mutual agreement of JDHL and the Client. Factors to consider but not limited to include the HGA recommendations, distance from septic tank, distance for trenching to water output points or system or electric supply, suitability of the position and access route for the rig and equipment, distance away from any sensitive features (buildings, landscape, water courses, public access), overhead cables and underground services.
A drillers log, detailing the findings and work carried out will be provided to the Client. Engineering supervision by a hydrogeologist can be quoted if required. The drillers log will be submitted to the British Geological Survey (BGS) after the works have been completed.
